For the last couple of days, I've been watching both seasons of Dead Like Me on Netflix (I'm so happy that Netflix now has unlimited online streaming. I pretty much just watch everything online these days. I'm even too lazy to pop a DVD into my computer to play that. I haven't gotten a new DVD for a long time.) Despite the fact that a few episodes were missing from the instant watch on Netflix (which I'm guessing they want me to actually rent the DVD which would make them a little more money perhaps), I really thoroughly enjoyed the series and wished they didn't cancel the third season.
I remember seeing the ads for this show back when it first came out, but being that I didn't have showtime, I never watched it. And if it's not for Netflix, I probably would never have gotten the chance to see it. It's the same deal with Weeds. I only watched it because of Netflix.
At first I found Ellen Muth a bit too stale and bitterly annoying, but she just grew on me. I just gotten more and more into her character and everyone that revolved around her. At first I was expecting something interesting to happen, with her maybe toying with death, but that soon dissipated into nothing. It wasn't about that, but just about that human to human experience, and what it really means to be living. It really doesn't do a whole lot, but it says a lot and it's just mesmerizing in the way it presents material.
I am really learning a lot about character presentation and development watching shows like these, especially it's so far from the feel and look of prime time network TV shows. They are really a totally different breed and it's just thoroughly fun and engaging. I really want to be on a show like this.
Anyways, I did finish all the episodes on Netflix, so now I have to find another show to watch. Any suggestions? I am digging through everything in the Netflix streaming archive!
