This is a short post, just a thought that I had
I have heard so many ministers and preachers preach the dumbest thing about how Gay Marriage is the cause of natural disasters and all that stuff as a punishment from God. Well if that is true, I would ask why within a week of Gay Marriage being banned in California did we have another huge wild fire!
So now should I come up with the conclusion that God sent the wild fires because we banned Gay Marriage? Should we be preaching how that is a sign from God saying we shouldn't keep people from marrying as the Bible said?
People just love to hear all these crazy things when it's agreeing with their own background and bias. But that's not the same as the truth, nor is it the same as what the Bible is teaching.
I often get into this conversation with especially secularists, which I'm friends with a few. Religion does not tell people to be biased or to be against a certain group of people, culture does. But culture and heritage loves to disguise itself with the facade of religion in order to carry on its traditions, frankly because without the excuse of God in the equation, it's rather hard to tell people to do certain things.
I believe Christ specifically preached against this when he talked about the hypocrisies of the Pharisees. They teach often the law without the meaning because if the meaning if understood, the law often times is more about cultural issues then that of the overarching laws of God.
I am a believer of God and that he has laws that govern the universe. But I also believe that these are often more of principles then it is with dealing specifically towards a situation. It is the principle in which we apply to the situation that God cares about. It's the idea of saving a sheep on the Sabbath. God created us to worship him, and that the Sabbath is for that purpose. But the underlying principle of it all is to love God and one another. And so it is the principle of this law that needs to be observed, not the actual way it was first manifested in humanity. Situations change, things happen, but principles remain the same. That's the truth of God.
