Halloween Partied Out

Well this year I actually for once actually dressed up for Halloween. Well it's not like I never dressed up before for shoots, I just don't care much to dress up for Halloween. But since I had to go to a party this year, 2 actually, I decided to finally take the plunge and dress up a little this year. The last time I remember I actually really did dress up was like when I was in 5th grade. I dressed up as Bart Simpson. I felt a bit stupid so I never did that again. I was never good with dressing up when I was a kid and my parents were oblivious to fashion. I just remember the other kids in school weren't all that positive in their reaction to what I was wearing. I can't remember the details, just the fact that I was traumatized.

The the years after that, I never went out and bought another costume. I just would dress up in stupid things that was more awkward then costume like. I remember one year I dressed up in a big thick red jacket that I normally would wear anyways. I got stupid comments from a few people, but then now thinking back they'd say stupid things to me no matter what. But I was a kid and didn't know any different.

So after a while I just never cared to really do anything for Halloween. I don't really get invited to parties anyways beyond those by my closest of friends. College wasn't like all that interesting for me either when it comes to the party scene. I was still more or less somewhat on my own for the most part. Seriously thinking about it, it really didn't feel like I quite completely belonged. But that's another post.

Well now that I'm in the world of acting, I've gotten much better at party socializing. I've really learned a whole heck of a lot of the in's and out's of how to work a party. Definitely a very useful thing.

So I was invited to my friend's Natalie's party last night. My agent also had a party the night before which I did go to. Well Natalie's party was a costume must kind of thing. It wasn't like she wouldn't let me in if I didn't dress up, but I didn't want to disappoint. On Tuesday, I went to Santa Monica with a friend of mine to run an errand with her and meet up with the person. He was here for a month to study English at UCLA extension and so we decided to show him around Santa Monica. Long story short, while we walked around I found Zara clothing store. I absolutely love this store since I bought a great jacket in Hong Kong at one of their stores there. They got a bunch of stores there. Anyways I walked in and was just window shopping until I found a really great fedora style hat. I had to buy it and decided I'm going to build a costume around the hat.

Well I didn't have any time on Thursday to buy anything because of my auditions, work and other things. I had my agent's party that night so I just wore my hate and a nice jacket to just give a nice different feel to it. It wasn't Halloween night anyways so it's not really that important to get in a costume.

But for Friday, I knew I needed to really expand on the outfit. I knew I really wanted a vest. I searched out Express' website to see what vests they had. I fell in love with one. But I still went to another local store that sold vintage costume stuff. But I didn't find any good vest there, they were all very cheap and bad in quality. So I finally decided to get it from Express.

Well I had a semi cross of an old school ganster/paperboy with a sort of contemporary style vest kind of look in the end. I don't really even know what to really call it, but who cares. It was still a great conversation opener. I met a great bunch of people, talked to a whole lot of them aside from bringing the 4 other friends of mine to the party. Actually I ended up bringing aobut 8 friends total to that party though they were mostly friends of the other friend of mine who is already a friend of Natalie. But I was the one who convinced her to go so hey, kudos to me.

In the middle of the party, we walked aobut 15 mins to another party nearby cause two of our friends were friends to those people. It was definitely a different kind of party with a different group of people. That party were mostly vfx people from one company whereas Natalie were more diverse. It was definitely a different vibe and was different in how I felt with approaching the people.

I am getting more comfortable at these parties. I'm definitely not what you would call a party animal, and I'm not really even much of a party guy. I usually prefer small gatherings and events. But I am getting much better at these sorts of events. I guess it is a critical part of what I do and I am sure I'll be going to a lot more of these. I guess until I make a huge name and everyone's eager to talk to me, then in that case I'll have to learn how to get out of a conversation, I'll have to keep working on getting into conversations.
